Cheap Netbooks
I decided to purchase my Acer Aspire One in black because I wanted something I could carry around for school without worrying about it taking up too much space in my backpack.

I also didn’t want a full-size laptop since they’re heavier and textbooks take up enough space as it is. It only weighs 2.65 pounds, which is about half that of a full-size laptop so it isn’t straining on the back. I purchased the netbook from Walmart after doing a little research.

Acer Aspire One
It was on display and I liked how small it was since portability was the primary reason I decided to go with a netbook over another computer. I really liked how it was available in different colors so it didn’t look like everyone else’s on campus.

I intended to use this Acer netbook primarily for casually surfing the Internet and for doing schoolwork or taking notes during lectures so specifications did not need to be top-of-the-line for its class. It has a 10.1-inch screen which is large enough to view web pages or documents. The screen also contains energy saving technology to preserve battery life, which is a necessity when going from class to class without time to charge it in between on days when I have classes continuously. Acer estimates that the 3-cell battery provides up to 4 hours of battery life and its claims have held up in my experience.

For specification, it contains an Intel Dual-Core N570 1.66 GHz processor and 1 GB of DDR3 memory and runs Windows 7 starter edition. Since it was purchased primarily for web browsing, storage was not a concern but it did include a 250GB SATA hard drive that was more than enough to hold music, photos and videos. It also has built-in wireless connectivity to enable access to the Internet from school, work and at home.

It also works for other recreational purposes such as snapping a quick photo or for taking short videos. It is minimal and only has 1.3MP, but it does the basic job. I wouldn’t rely on it primarily for taking photos. It also contains a multi-in-one media reader to read memory cards from cell phones or digital cameras. It also has 3 individual USB 2.0 ports to plug in additional devices. In my opinion the only drawback for the Acer Aspire One is that is lacks a CD/DVD drive, but that's a minor draw back and not a cause not to purchase it.
